My son is a soldier.

I am a soldier’s mom.

I am a member of a club that I am very proud to be in, but one that I would not have voluntarily joined.

There is a constant feeling of fear and pride that I have not been able to describe.

While I am extremely blessed to be able to visit him often many things are different. Holidays, birthdays, every day. During every visit there is a moment that reminds me that the most important things remain. The last night of my most recent visit was one such moment. I walked into the living room at 9pm and he said “hey mom, do you feel like making me chocolate chip cookies?” Yes, he got his cookies.

Before we know it 5000 miles are put between us once again.

My heart aches all over again.

Goodbyes have turned into “I’ll see you real soon”.

Hugs last longer.

I love you is emphasized more.

When no one is looking I cry. Hard.

Some words are unspoken but heard.

More importantly than any of that, my heart bursts with pride.

You see my son is a soldier.

My. Baby. Boy. Is. A. Soldier.

And I am a soldier’s mom.

💙🇺🇸
